Archetypal Astrology uses the archetypal symbolism and relationship of the planets to understand astrological charts. As Richard Tarnas so eloquently wrote,

“The basic principle of astrology is that the planets have a fundamental, cosmically based connection to specific archetypal forces or principles which influence human existence, and that the patterns formed by the planets in the heavens bear a meaningful correspondence to the patterns of human affairs on the Earth. In terms of individuals, the positions of the planets at the time and place of a person's birth are regarded as corresponding to the basic archetypal patterns of that person's life and character.”

Archetypes can be thought of as universal forces, numinous and infinite in meaning, that can affect and can be affected by the human psyche and behavior. They are the underpinnings of our collective and personal unconscious, and whether we are aware of them or not, they are here driving our decisions, impacting our actions, and even influencing our moods. In the process of making these unconscious archetypes conscious we are able to create lasting change and a deep understanding of ourselves through this inner alchemy.
